Dr Xin Xin delivers lecture series at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

Dr Xin Xin, Reader in International Communications and member of CAMRI, has delivered a lecture series at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), deepening academic links between Westminster and one of China’s leading institutions for language and international studies. The visit forms part of Dr Xin’s broader programme of engagement with Chinese universities on global media, political communication and the evolving role of infotainment in international news flows.
Across the lecture series, Dr Xin introduced students and staff to current debates on global infotainment, soft power and the political economy of international news, drawing on CAMRI research into media systems and transnational communication. Sessions explored how popular factual formats, entertainment news and platform-based video are reshaping public understanding of international affairs, and how these dynamics intersect with questions of nationalism, commercialisation and regulation.
The lectures were complemented by discussions with faculty at GDUFS on future collaboration in teaching and research, including potential student exchanges, joint seminars and co-authored publications on media and communication in China and beyond. Dr Xin’s visit continues CAMRI’s commitment to building international partnerships that situate UK media policy and practice within wider global transformations in communication systems.
